Run Faster and Smoother Inc. was a corporation that existed in a busy metropolis long ago. They had a stellar reputation for providing first-rate service and groundbreaking goods. In order to guarantee the company’s success, a small group of committed personnel toiled relentlessly.
One among them was Tita the Tortoise, an exceptionally gifted and dedicated worker who had been there for a long time. She had a stellar reputation for being extremely hard-working, meticulous, and efficient. She was highly regarded by her coworkers and was proud of the job she did.
Godbold the Hare was employed by the corporation one day as part of their effort to grow the staff. Godbold appeared to be an ideal match for the position and had an outstanding résumé. But it became more apparent that Godbold wasn’t a suitable match for the business over time. Because he was too lazy to keep up with the fast-paced atmosphere, he made a lot of mistakes and had frequent conflicts with his coworkers.
Consequently, Tita felt herself more responsible for making up for lost time. She put in a lot of time and effort, staying late on several occasions to make sure everything was done well. She felt taken advantage of, stressed out, and fatigued.
The business kept having trouble even though she did her best. The company’s image took a hit as customers were dissatisfied with the service and product quality. The management group didn’t know what to do because they hadn’t identified the incompatible hiring as the source of the problem.
After months of being ignored, Tita made the decision to speak up. She apprised her boss of the circumstance, and the boss was taken aback to hear about it.
The boss may perceive it as providing their best performers additional opportunity. High achievers (Tita) regard it as inferior (Godbold) performers getting away with less effort. Tita believe they are being penalized for being good employees.
To pave the way forward, it’s essential to grant workers like Tita greater access to senior leaders, such as one-on-one meetings with board members. This will not only meet their expectations for recognition but also offer them a platform to share their success stories. Additionally, it will allow them to carve out time for personal development. Another crucial step is to ensure that the company hires compatible workers from the start (food for thought).
